Key thesis

Household energy consumption in India is poised to skyrocket in the coming years. This can lead to grid instability, more blackouts, and increased number of electric fire incidents. Unquestionably, the biggest change we can make is behaviour change. If households en masse are more efficient about electricity consumption, this can have a catalytic effect on global electricity demand.

SustLabs helps residential buildings, commercial properties and warehouses monitor, optimize and reduce energy consumption across appliances, while providing in-built early fire detection. In tandem, SustLabs is building one of India's largest proprietary data sets of energy consumption patterns across households in India.

Overview

SustLabs is an IIT Bombay-based energy-intelligence company whose flagship product, Ohm Assistant, turns ordinary electricity meters into smart, AI-driven monitors. It delivers real-time, appliance-level consumption insights by reading smart-meter data with machine learning, and can sense and flag potential electrical fire hazards early on. Importantly, SustLabs is building features to remote control any appliance in a household - effectively making every appliance a "smart device".

The result: residences and commercial establishments can see when, where and how their energy is used — and prevent electrical safety hazards in the process. By adding an intelligence layer to existing electrical infrastructure, SustLabs helps buildings reduce energy costs, prevent electrical fires and improve operational efficiency.
