Samir Shah

Samir is the Managing Partner at Peak Sustainability Ventures, one of India's first institutional sustainability VC funds, and leads all investment and operational decision-making at the firm. He is a veteran in the field of climate investing, with a strong track record and several exits. He has a deep knowledge of Peak's core areas of focus — New Energy, Food Systems, Water and Climate Tech, and is passionate about working closely with founders to help them build strong businesses and a large-scale climate impact.  Within the Peak portfolio, Samir holds Board positions in Hydrogen Mem-Tech and Avant Wood, and Board Observer positions in HT Materials Science and Indra Water.

Samir has 38+ years of global financial investment experience and 10+ years of climate investment experience, with a track record comprising of some of the most successful sustainability companies today, including Waaree Energies (IPO), VA Tech Wabag (IPO), ION Energy (Acquired), GIST Impact, Metafin Cleantech, Drinkwell and others. His first climate investment was in 2009, in VA Tech Wabag, which is now publicly listed and one of the largest water companies in the world.  Prior to Peak, Samir launched Sattva Capital — a private investment office — in 2014, through which he has invested in 30+ companies across sectors. Samir has achieved attractive exits in his broader portfolio of early-stage investments, including Arya.ai (Acquired), Beardo (Acquired), Venture Catalysts (Secondary Sale), and Caffe Nero. 

Prior to Sattva, Samir founded and ran a Hong Kong-based, multi-strategy hedge fund for ten years, backed by global institutional investors. Prior to this, Samir held senior principal investment roles at Goldman Sachs (Hong Kong), Salomon Brothers (New York) and Deutsche Bank (New York).

Samir holds an MBA from Wharton (with distinction), a Law degree and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Bombay University, and is a certified Chartered Accountant. He has previously been an Adjunct Professor at Ahmedabad University, teaching an MBA course on "Sustainability, Business and Society".
