Prof. Tim Palmer

  • Royal Society Research Professor in Climate Physics & Senior Alumni Fellow, University of Oxford

Prof. Palmer researches the predictability and dynamics of weather and climate, including extreme events. He was involved in the first five IPCC assessment reports, and was co-chair of the international scientific steering committee of the World Climate Research Program Project on climate variability and predictability.

In February 2023, Prof. Palmer was awarded the Royal Astronomical Society's 2023 Gold Medal for Geophysics, one of the highest awards in science (previous winners include Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking). He completed his DPhil from Oxford University in the mid-1970s.
